Geographical representativeness description | Data from an industrial oil mill in Brazil. The data were collected (based mostly on Environmental reports of industries and literature source) in some soybean mill plants in Rio Grande do Sul state, which means that this dataset is representative within this region. The use fo this dataset for other areas of Brazil (extrapolation) could have low risk/criticality when consider the same technology.

Technology description including background system | Typical oil mill designed for soybean oil solvent extraction (incl. pre-cracking of soybeans, dehulling, oil extraction, meal processing and oil degumming). Literature data were used to fulfill the dataset when the primary data (from organizations which are under contract of the study) were not available.

Data treatment and extrapolations principles | This dataset is intended for being part of the Brazilian LCI database. Information presented here were It was adapted from ecoinvent dataset to a Brazilian reality. To the adaptation, the data were compiled from Environmental reports of some oil mill factory in Brazil, required to the environmental licensing process and also from literature. Mainly, the energy source in Brazil is based on electrical energy and steam from oil and wood. Also, the water consumption and the composition of the effluents are different, following flows presented in this dataset. |

Sampling procedure | The dataset data is an average of four brazilian organizations were primary data were acessed. Literature data were used to fulfill the dataset when the primary data were not available. The flows of energy and water was collected based on factories environmental reports (FEPAM 2009/2011). While water flows were based in the reports and Müller (2012), the energy flows based on in the reports that gave the energy gross data. So, we used Gazzoni et al (2005), Rocha (2011), Scheneider & Oliveira (2006) and Silva and Freitas (2008) to share the groos energy among the sources (wood and gas). Regarding the outputs, the wastewater/effluent data (concentration [mg/l] of solids, BOD, P, Ca, N, Oils) came from primary data of industries which send those effluent to analysis in certified laboratories by (INMETRO - starndarlization council in Brazil). In order get the real mass of which output, the wastewater flow rate was calculated based on mass balance of the industrial process. the evaporating water was also result from the mass balance. Hexane is used in a closed system. It was considered input only the fraction that evaporating. The hexane concentration was estimated of 2 to 2,5% in the process. This assumption was take from the own mill plants. |
