General comment on data set For the transportation of the charcoal, a Volkswagen 19-330, Constellation, 2p, (diesel) van truck (E5) was used; the total gross weight (PBT) - approved for 16 t load capacity 30 t, 2014. The average distance traveled in the transport from the Charcoal Plant to the packing plant is 97 km. Based on the EEA methodology (2019) it was possible to calculate the average diesel consumption for the truck, being 0.240 kg/km. According to the methodology, the truck used has a Nomenclature For Reporting (NFR) code 1.A.3.b.iii, a hard subcategory 28 - 32t, powered by diesel and governed by Euro V emission legislation (>2013). The following combustion emissions (measured data) from the truck are considered: ammonia, benzene, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, nitrogen oxides, nitrous oxide, NMVOC, PM 2.5 particulates, sulfur dioxide, toluene, xylene. The truck's NMVOC, toluene, and xylene emissions result from imperfect combustion and evaporative losses through diffusion through the tank. Diesel-powered truck. The data regarding construction, operation, maintenance, and end of life of the truck comes from the ecoinvent database (v3.5).

Time representativeness
Data set valid until 2030
Time representativeness description The data on charcoal production are based on on-site collection in a smallholder production unit in 2017, but the use of this technology is expected for at least 10 years. All calculations were made in 2020-2021. The diesel comes from the EcoInvent v3.5 database. These specific flows are not available in the ILCD database, so we suggest using them to ensure completeness of environmentally relevant material/energy flows.
Technological representativeness
Technology description including background system Volkswagen van truck 19-330, Constellation, 2p, (diesel) (E5) was used; the total gross weight (PBT) - homologated for 16 t load capacity 30 t, 2014
LCI method and allocation
Type of data set Unit process, black box
LCI Method Principle Other
Deviation from LCI method principle / explanations None
Modelling constants All data used in the calculation of the inventory results refer to the transportation of 1 kg of charcoal.
Data sources, treatment and representativeness
Data cut-off and completeness principles All relevant mass and energy flows are included in the inventory; no specific cut-off rule is applied. Infrastructure is not included.
Deviation from data cut-off and completeness principles / explanations None.
Data selection and combination principles The data sources for the transport system are sufficiently consistent. Emission factors are based on average European conditions (major emissions are based on calculated operational data).
Deviation from data selection and combination principles / explanations None.
Data treatment and extrapolations principles There are no missing data other than those that were not considered within the studies and scored as suggested, according to the Qualidata Guide.
Completeness
Completeness of product model No statement
